8 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Cook, stirring constantly, over medium-low heat until the mixture is thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in:
1 cup pecans, finely chopped
3/4 cup shredded sweetened dried coconut
2/3 cup raisins, finely chopped
1/3 cup chopped dates or raisins
1/4 cup chopped maraschino cherries (optional)
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated or ground nutmeg
Let cool before using. This keeps, refrigerated, for about 1 week. Soften before using.
